For the month of February a card making station was up in the library.
Many students created "Welcome to Oregon" cards for refugees and immigrants supported by the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization. They designed 83 heartfelt greetings for families facing their first winter in a foreign land.
They also had the chance to check out and look at many powerful books in our library that told life stories of immigrants and refugees.
WAY TO GO KIND BUCKMAN STUDENTS!
Thanks to YOU the Book Fair in December was a huge success. We surpassed our goal and sold over 1,600 books! That number translates into 288,972 practiced reading minutes and $4,441.38 in Scholastic dollars. GO BUCKMAN!
The library staff would like to send a big "THANKS!" to all those who helped, shopped and inspired readers at the book fair. Thank you to our volunteers: Lisa Dean, Margaret FiveCrows, Yula Flournoy, Flori Kash, Kelli Brewer, Celena Hoskins, Bernadette Pearson, Anne Chenot, Tarah Rose, Melissa Jones, Angie Smith, Lisa Frack, Hilary Woodard, Jen Cockrell, Claire Bernardo, Randy Vorhees and Marty Vorhees. Additionally we would like to thank all the cooperating parents, excited STAFF and flexible SUN program! Keep calm and read on!
As we were packing up, a parent came in with her two girls and said "Thank you so much. This is the first time I have seen my girls excited about reading! They came to the Book Fair every day!"
