5th graders have made book trailers for our library!

Over the past 5-6 weeks students have chosen a book in our library (that they have read), created a script (see worksheet below), made their videos using ChatterPix and graded their classmates using a rubric.

These videos will be linked to a QR code bookmark so students at Buckman can view a trailer of the book made by their classmates!

Research, Modification, Development and Prototype Building

4/5/2018

Over the course of 8 weeks the 4th and 5th graders were engaged in a unit that involved:

  • researching an invention that already exists with multiple databases
  • choosing to modify that invention into something that helps humans, animals or the planet
  •  developing a detailed sketch (blueprint) of the invention or modification that included detailed parts, drawing parts that move, explaining what each part does and what materials it is made of
  • answering questions about where this product would be sold and for what price, would your friends purchase it?
  • building a model of the invention using our library recyclables MAKERSPACE
  • having a limit on how many supplies they could use each day (replicating funding and resource scarcity)
  • experiencing a time limit of three 20 minute sessions to complete
  • developing questions to ask other teams about their inventions based on all the previous steps

Marilyn Singer's reverso poems are quite interesting. She writes a poem then reverses the lines in a mirroring poem and has two different viewpoints! Our 4th and 5th graders used an app called "ChatterPix" to make the images in these books come alive!

Ms. Rudnick's YouTube Channel has all the ChatterPix...
